The Who
Ketah has a PhD in Engineering and a wealth of environmental consulting experience. In conjunction with Rotary and Food Plant Solutions, Ketah runs not for profit community education initiatives helping everyone successfully grow their own food. Ketah and her family have established experimental food forests in Queensland and evaluated the potential of thousands of edible plants for our changing climatic conditions. Ketah works hard to raise awareness of alternative edible plants via community gardens and educational institutions.

The What
Brisbane Edible Gardening is a community education organisation. Our aim it to provide reliable edible gardening advice to those who have busy lives and young families but still want to grow their own food. Our plants are hardy, low maintenance, productive and delicious. The plants we advocate have been tried and tested. These are the plants that you can put in an intensive gardening weekend and have the edible garden reward you for years to come with minimal maintenance.
Our goal is to help everyone successfully grow their own food by raising awareness about alternative edible plants that will thrive in Brisbane.
Together with Rotary and Food Plant Solutions we run an experimental food forest in Mount Crosby which has hundreds of species of edible plants growing in a sustainable foodscape. We also run volunteer school programs and community education.

The Why
Growing your own food is not always as easy as it looks on TV or in glossy magazines. For many years we gardened, diligently buying potting mix and planting European annuals like large tomatoes, cucumbers, peas, cabbage and lettuce. While we had some successes, lettuce often wilted, and large tomatoes were plagued with pests.
The effort and expense involved kept us buying from the local grocery store. This all changed when we discovered edible perennial plants.
This website is an introduction to the hardiest, most reliable and nutritious backyard food crops for Queensland.
