Jaboticaba. Now in fruit across Brisbane. Also known as the Brazilian grape this delicious fruit grows directly from the trunk and branches of the tree. A very attractive and productive small tree for any garden. The flowers and fruits appear in quick succession and once the birds find them then you’d better be quick. They are a favourite of the local lorikeets in particular. Fruits are best enjoyed fully ripe and picked off the bush. The skin is edible and nutritious but quite tart so most people enjoy piercing the skin and squeezing the juicy sweet fruit straight into your mouth. The fruits are the size of large grapes but they also come in giant, plum sized varieties and also, red and yellow.
